Zero-Data-Retention (ZDR)
Zero-Data-Retention is an enterprise LLM tier where the vendor commits to not retaining your prompts or responses for training. Available on a frontier LLM (enterprise tier), an enterprise LLM tier, Azure-hosted LLM. Required for processing PII, PHI, or contract-sensitive data.

Standard API tiers may retain prompts/responses for 30 days for abuse monitoring. ZDR tiers don't retain at all. Important for: legal (privilege), finance (regulated data), healthcare (HIPAA), enterprise contracts with data-residency clauses. Cost is roughly the same per-token; gate is contractual + sometimes minimum-spend.
